We're the Subnational Workgroup for a Just Energy Transition (GTSTEJ). We articulate diverse institutions with energy-related attributions from subnational governments, in order to boost projects and policies that will accelerate a just energetic transition in Mexico.

Forum on Funding Resources for a Just Energy Transition in Mexico
The Just Energy Transition is a gradual and participatory process of transformation from an energy model based on fossil fuels to a decarbonized one. It seeks to address the climate emergency, reduce structural inequalities, and improve people's well-being and quality of life, while simultaneously reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants. This includes:
Recognizing, mitigating, and remedying the differentiated impacts of the energy model and those that occur during the transition on people, sectors, territories, and ecosystems, especially the most vulnerable and affected.
Distributing the costs and benefits with equality of the energy transition among different sectors and stakeholders.
Democratizing and opening spaces for substantive participation for all people and stakeholders.
In this context, we have established ourselves as the Subnational Working Group for the Just Energy Transition, a space for coordination and collaboration among state governments to promote coordinated actions that accelerate a just and sustainable energy transition. We seek to strengthen the capacity of local communities to design and implement innovative projects, promote the exchange of experiences and best practices, and influence the development of public policies that integrate principles of equity, inclusion, and regional development.
In this way, we contribute to consolidating a shared long-term vision that allows us to move toward a fairer, more sustainable energy system aligned with the needs and opportunities of these communities.
Goals
- Promote and represent the voices of subnational governments in strategic forums.
- Actively participate in binding planning processes at both the national and international levels.
- Disseminate collective results, lessons learned, and best practices resulting from collaboration.
- Promote the professionalization of the sector through training and partnerships with academic institutions.
- Consolidate a regulatory framework that supports and enables a Just Energy Transition at the local level.
